International development camp
The development, or training camp, is a weekend getaway reward for those who are just starting out with para hockey and want to improve in the game. Intermediate para hockey players will have the opportunity to improve through intense training. These development camps are designed for beginning para hockey players from four countries – the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary. For many, this will be the first opportunity for a comparison on an international scale as well as an exchange of experiences with para hockey players from neighboring countries.
The training camp is also intended for those who are wanting to try para hockey for the very first time. We have prepared sledges and all the necessary equipment for that first glide onto the ice. The first camp for new players is approaching! You can sign up now! It’s never been easier!
This project is co-financed by the governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad grants from the International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to develop the ideas of sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
Development camps take place thanks to co-financing from the budget of the Moravian-Silesian Region and the statutory city of Ostrava. We also thank other partners for their support, thanks to which we can give players the quality conditions for training sessions as well as specific equipment.
We are looking for new talented players

In a sledge for the first time! A premiere development camp took place in Ostrava
There are no limits. You can start playing para hockey at any age. Thirteen people tried the para hockey sledge during the first International Development Camp, which took place in Ostrava. The youngest of them was only eight years old.
A four-day camp for beginners and intermediate para hockey players took place on the ice in Ostrava Poruba. A comprehensive program was prepared for the players, led by the head coach of the Czech para hockey team, Jiří Bříza, and his assistants. The new players not only tried out a classic training session but also received valuable advice during several lectures on the rules of para hockey or video analysis from matches. Of course, there was a specific compensatory preparation and regular stretching. “The camp is intended for all those who want to try para hockey or feel the need to improve. We start from scratch. It’s important to sit in the para hockey sledge right or to balance the sledge correctly, “said Jan Szturc, the camp coordinator and assistant coach of the Czech para hockey team, when asked on the basics of para hockey. Petr Stránský checked or repaired the equipment for players who have been playing para hockey for a long time. Jakub Novotný, the coach of the national team goalkeepers, took care of the specific training of the goalkeepers.
New players have been given tips on where to get para hockey equipment. Within the camps, however, all players were given a complete equipment set that includes sledges, intended to be lent for free. The organizers prepared a special sledge for eight-year-old Jonáš, who came to Ostrava to try para hockey for the first time. “It’s amazing that we can try para hockey at the campsite.” Jonáš always wanted to play hockey, but because of his handicap, he can’t. “We have been watching para hockey since the last world championships in Ostrava. We would like to train regularly. Additionally, our son can watch national players here directly during training, and that’s wonderful, “said Markéta Jakubková, the mother of the starting para hockey player. Thirteen-year-old Lukáš Kapko, on the other hand, who has been training in Sparta Prague for half a year, has experience with para hockey. “I’m really enjoying the camp. All of Jirka Bříza’s lectures are great, and what’s even better is that we get advice from the national players. In addition, it’s really fun to be here with the boys, even though the training is grueling. I probably enjoy the matches that we play at the end of each training session the most, “said para hockey newcomer, Lukáš Kapko. “Some of the league players got off to a great start here. Some are improving rapidly already after just the first few days of the camp, “camp coordinator Jan Szturc praises the progress of the beginning players. “The goal of these camps is also for the boys to pass on their experiences to each other, to establish contact, and that will move them further,” added Jan Szturc.
We are offering a glimpse of the atmosphere of the para hockey camps on the Czech para hockey YouTube channel. At the same time, we are preparing other development camps for para hockey players. We will publish them on the www.parahockey.cz website soon!
